WORKED EXAMPLE · MONTHLY COMPOUNDINGDeposit Rs. 500,000 · 10% p.a. · 12 months

With the 10% withholding option selected: estimated interest after withholding Rs. 47,121 · estimated maturity amount Rs. 547,121.

How the estimate works Interest is compounded at the frequency selected above. The withholding option estimates a 10% deduction from the interest earned. Actual rates, compounding, day-count rules, payout options, and early-withdrawal penalties differ by institution.

IRD guidance sets AIT/WHT on deposit interest at 10% from 1 April 2025. Certain resident individuals may submit a declaration to avoid withholding if they meet the applicable income conditions. Confirm eligibility and treatment with your bank or IRD: IRD circular · IRD 2026/27 notice.

This is an illustration, not a bank quote or tax advice. Withholding is not necessarily your final tax liability. Check the institution's offer and current IRD guidance before investing.

How fixed deposit interest is estimated

Enter the deposit principal, annual rate quoted by your financial institution, number of months, and how often interest is compounded. The calculator estimates the maturity value with compound interest and optionally subtracts an estimated withholding amount from earned interest.

Formula: maturity before withholding = principal × (1 + annual rate ÷ compounding periods per year) raised to (compounding periods per year × years invested). Bank calculations may use a different day count, payout option, or rate convention.

Compare offers using the same deposit amount and term. Check the bank's early-withdrawal rules and confirm tax withholding eligibility with the bank or IRD. For borrowing costs, see the loan calculator.
